These two days were used to prepare ourselves for our vacation in September when we will be riding the entire length of the Katy Trail in Missouri.
Read about the Katy Trail here.
The first day we road from Karnak IL, where we left the truck, to Harrisburg IL for a total of about 45.7 miles. We spent the night at a hotel and rode about 46.3 the next day back to the truck in Karnak. We had our rear panniers packed with about 15 lbs extra on each bike plus whatever extra we had. It was a good test for us with the added weight which didn’t seem to be a huge factor in performance difference. The drag on the tires from the crushed limestone was more of a challenge. Hopefully the Katy will be more well packed.
The tunnel hill trail is a very decent trail and it’s a shame we didn’t see more using it.
All in all it was a great time.
We give a shout out to Joe at the Stonefort General Store that has wonderful food! The fried chicken was awesome and the burgers have a secret ingredient the owner says, MEAT! He’s not joking one bit and doesn’t skimp.
We highly recommend stopping at this little oasis on the trail! Thanks Joe!
