We left the hotel in Jeff City around 7 am and stopped around the capital building to take a few pictures. The hills didn’t seem so bad coming out as they did going in, thankfully. On the other side of the bridge we found a small park by the river to eat a breakfast of banana, peanut butter and granola. Enough energy to get us down the trail a bit.
I discovered a slow leak in my tire and when we got to the N Jefferson trailhead, Brian decided to replace it. This was after I had already made a spectacle of myself when I almost tipped my bike over just trying to park it. Our friendly spectator named Richard got another chuckle when Brian blew up the new tube he had just replaced in my tire! The rest of the day was filled with faulty tubes and 2 flats from thorns.
We had lunch at a welcomed and COOL Riverside Bar and Grill in Portland. Awesome food!
Today was a little long and rough since it was our 4th straight day of riding and it was very humid ahead of the rain which we narrowly avoided! http://youtu.be/DAvid0puZBU Brian had his final flat of the day just before the McKittrick trailhead that leads to Hermann and had to walk his bike a half mile to a gas station where the owners of the Heritage Lodging picked us and the bikes up with their truck and SUV and drove us across the bridge. As soon as we pulled up to the B and B it started raining. God is so good! And now a day of rest! So encouraged by all who are praying for us and everyone we have met have been so eager to help. http://youtu.be/Cbdpj4VreZM
